TAS Summer Seminar Cancelled

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

David Kelley, philosopher and Chairman of The Atlas Society, has announced that the annual summer seminar, a centerpiece of the mission of TAS, planned for the summer of 2009, has been cancelled. The announcement letter is posted here.

As an organization funded solely by contributions from members, TAS is very much affected by the global economic slowdown. I encourage you to examine TAS and evaluate whether it has a place in your hierarchy of values.

Happy New Year, and may your pursuits of values be realized!

Peace on Earth and Good Will toward Men

If anyone wants to read something challenging but relevant to the holiday season, George H. Smith’s book Atheism: The Case Against God (Los Angeles: Nash Publishing Co., 1974) is your book. Although its topic aims not at any major aspect of the philosophy of Objectivism, the book is a great work of Objectivist scholarship, one that can eminently supplement your understanding of epistemology and meta-ethics.

I just finished reading the book, about which I only discovered recently from some obscure literary references. What a pleasant surprise! Reading it was a gift to myself, a gift of finding another great mind. What is wholly admirable about it, is that it was written when Mr. Smith was only 24 years old.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
